LaurenPsomostithis PHASE Seminar 1 Apr 17 2009, 11:03 PM EDT by dchu

Last Friday Pat Bouker, Larry Hopt, Joe Smith, Ron Woods and I attended the Prentice Hall Accounting Symposium for Educators. There was a very informative presentation about IFRS - I will attach the power point presentation on this page. The resource page has links which not only have current information, but related videos and e-instruction about this change.

The other topic discussed was the 'myaccountinglab' software. This software appears to be a great improvement upon older models - it includes direct links to an e-book to help with solutions, provides a 'walk-through' of a similar problem, and also has an 'ask instructor' feature which allows the student to email questions (and the instructor gets the information linked directly ... no searching to find the student's work!). It contains narrated demo problems to help the students master the concepts too. The feedback from instructors at the seminar who currently use this program was 100% positive! The price is exceptional - $85 for the text containing 201, 202, 203 - they are mailed directly from the publisher as a soft-cover (three hole punched) edition of the text, they also receive a full copy of the e-book and 12 months of access to the myaccountinglab program. It appears that it would help both with our dilemma of reducing the cost of textbooks and with finding successful online tools.

I have about 15 current annual reports (2007 and 2008) available for anyone to use in class. They are located on top of my file cabinet. Feel free to use them in your classes but please return them when you are finished. Chris can let you into my office.
